Latex Care
Cleaning and caring for latex
Latex clothing and accessories need a product suited to the particular stage of care: cleaning, dressing, polishing or storage. This category may include specialist wash and detergent, latex polish, dressing aids, talcum powder and application cloths. A polishing product does not replace a cleaner, so check the intended purpose before use.
Main product types
- Cleaners and detergents: products for washing latex according to both the care-product directions and the garment manufacturer's instructions
- Latex polish: formulas intended to create shine or finish on the surface
- Dressing aids: products designed to make a latex garment easier to put on when the label states that use
- Powder and applicators: accessories intended for storage or even application, depending on the individual description
Check purpose and compatibility
Compare the formula or format, package quantity and exact directions. Confirm whether the product is for latex only or also states compatibility with vinyl or PVC. Do not assume that a general clothing cleaner, oil or household polish is suitable for latex.
Follow both sets of instructions
Use the care-product label together with the instructions for the specific garment or accessory. Test only where the manufacturer recommends it, avoid excessive heat and direct sunlight, and let cleaned latex dry as directed before storage. Keep it away from sharp objects and materials that the garment maker identifies as incompatible.
