Thursting Dildos

Inside a thrusting dildo a small motor converts rotation into linear movement. A section of the shaft moves back and forth automatically, while the base stays still in your hand or on the suction cup. The range of movement is usually 1 to 4 cm. More advanced models combine thrusting with vibration or heating. The main advantage is a steady rhythm without tiring your hands.

Most models offer 5-10 speeds and 3-8 different movement patterns. In everyday use, usually 3-4 are actually used: one slow, one medium, one more intense, and one alternating pattern. More important than the number of speeds is the range (from truly slow to powerful) and smooth transitions between them. Many elaborate programs sound good in the specs but make no real difference to the experience.

USB-charging models are the more practical choice in most cases. They give 60-90 minutes of runtime, equal to 3-5 sessions. They are usually fully sealed, since they have no battery compartment, which makes cleaning easier. Battery models mainly make sense for travel without easy access to power. Because thrusting draws a lot of power, USB charging generally comes out ahead.

Because of its moving parts, a thrusting dildo is louder than a simple vibrator. Cheaper models reach 50-60 decibels, the level of a quiet conversation. Quality models drop to 35-45 decibels, about the level of a whisper. In the specs, a useful indicator is a "whisper-quiet" note or a specific decibel measurement. Using it on a soft surface such as a bed reduces vibrations further.

Thrusting works best as a base of movement, on which you add manual input. Changing the angle at the base lets you target different internal spots. Temporary pressure increases intensity without changing speed. With a partner, one person handles these adjustments. When left fully automatic, thrusting tends to give a more mechanical result compared with combining automatic and manual movement.
