Four main types. Floggers: many leather strands on a handle, for a diffuse sensation. Cat o' nine tails: fewer but longer strands, more focused. Paddles: a firm flat section, for a localised strike. Crops: a thin rod with a leather square at the tip, precise. Materials: genuine leather, faux leather, silicone. Each type gives a different sensation, from a light tickle to a sharp sting.

A gradual approach. Agree first: a safe word, limits, signals. Practise on a pillow or bed for coordination. Start with light strikes, raise intensity gradually, and pause every 5-10 strikes to check in. Watch the skin: pink is normal, deep red or black means too much. Aftercare afterwards: a hug, cream, water. Never under the influence of alcohol. Always start light.
Cleaning by material. Genuine leather: wipe with a damp cloth and mild dermatological soap, not soaked in water, then leather oil afterwards to preserve it. Faux leather: water and soap.
