A Kegel ball (Kegel balls, ben wa balls) is a small spherical or egg-shaped object placed inside the vagina to strengthen the pelvic muscles. It works two ways. Passively: its presence activates the muscles holding it. Actively: the user does Kegel contractions while holding it. It comes in different sizes/weights for progression. Common material: medical silicone or stainless steel. Often with a cord or stem for removal.

Benefits of strengthening the pelvic muscles. A tighter feel during intercourse (mutual or for the user). Better urinary control (preventing or addressing incontinence after childbirth or with age). More intense orgasms due to muscle strength. Restoring vaginal tone after childbirth. Better awareness of the pelvic floor. Systematic use of 15-20 minutes a day brings visible results in 4-8 weeks. Medical advice after childbirth is also recommended.

Steps. Cleaning. A little water-based lube. Insertion lying down: the ball goes in like a tampon, to a depth that fits easily. If it's a set with a cord joining them, the first goes deeper, the second closer. Doing Kegel contractions: squeeze the muscles for 3-5 seconds, relax 3-5 seconds. Repeat 10-15 times. Staying in: 15-30 minutes at first, gradually up to a few hours. Remove by pulling the cord.

Vibrating eggs combine the two. As Kegel: they work for pelvic strengthening. As a vibrator: they stimulate internally. Features. They have an internal motor, USB charging and a remote or app. Advantage: they can be used for two purposes interchangeably. Downside: slightly pricier (60-150 euros vs 20-80 for classic Kegel) and the electronics need more cleaning. Advice: start with classic Kegel if the goal is strengthening, vibrating if the goal is stimulation too.

Gradual progression matters. Weight levels. Beginner: 25-40 grams, relatively light, easy to hold. Intermediate: 50-70 grams, after 4-6 weeks at beginner level. Experienced: 80-120 grams, after 2-3 months of systematic use. A progression system: a set of 3-5 eggs of different weights, so the user moves up gradually. Point of care: if the egg falls out, it's too heavy for that stage; return to the previous one and try again.
