Fetish vinyl sheets are large plastic sheets of PVC or vinyl for use over a mattress or a flat surface. Purpose: waterproof, protecting the mattress from fluids (lubricants, moisture, wet & messy play); aesthetic, where the glossy surface gives a latex/fetish look to the scene; and a smooth texture allowing easy sliding. Dimensions: usually 200x230 cm for a double bed. Materials: PVC (cheaper), latex-style vinyl, elastic PVC. Cleaning is easy with a rinse.
They're used in: wet & messy (WAM) play with food, whipped cream, oils, chocolate; prolonged lubricant use, avoiding mattress stains; fluid play; blood or wax play, for easy cleaning; massage scenes with plenty of oil; adult production, for the aesthetic look; and latex fetish scenes, where the image fits. Point: they aren't breathable, so in long use they can get hot and sweaty underneath.
Two ways. Over the regular sheets: placed over the mattress or normal sheets, easier and without messing up the regular set. As a full replacement: the vinyl replaces the sheets, more aesthetic but less comfortable. Fastening: some have corner elastics, others are simply large pieces laid out; for stability, tuck them under the mattress or use clips. After use: wipe and ventilate.
Cleaning is simple and quick. Wipe immediately with a damp cloth or sponge right after use; warm water and mild soap for stubborn stains; rinse in the bath if very dirty; dry with a cloth and ventilate 2-4 hours before folding; and store folded in a cupboard. Avoid creasing: some PVC creases if folded tightly, so store rolled. Lifespan: 2-5 years with moderate use.
It depends on frequency and type of activity. Worth it: if you regularly do wet play or messy scenes; if you want to protect an expensive mattress; in daily use of lots of lube; or if you prefer the aesthetic. Not worth it: for rare fluid activities, where a towel suffices; in a very hot climate, where they get uncomfortably sweaty; or if you dislike the plastic feel. Price: 20-80 euros for a quality one; cheaper ones tear fast. The advice: a mid-price one for a first purchase.
