Anal
A butt plug is a cone- or teardrop-shaped toy with a wide base that's inserted into the anus and stays in place without active holding. The base stops full insertion. It comes in different sizes, materials (silicone, stainless steel, glass) and designs. The purpose is the feeling of fullness, gradual preparation for anal sex and combined stimulation with other toys.
In choosing a size there are two dimensions. Diameter (the maximum width): the critical measurement. Beginners: 2-3 cm. Intermediate: 3-4 cm. Experienced: 4+ cm. Insertion length: usually 7-12 cm for comfortable use. Point of care: the passage narrows just before the base (the neck), which must be thin enough so it doesn't press constantly. A gradual path is recommended: start with a small plug and go up gradually. Never jump sizes.

Anal beads are a series of round shapes connected by a flexible cord or plastic stem. They have a handle or emergency ring at the end for safe removal. They come in different sizes: all the same size (graduated or uniform) or increasing (escalating size). The purpose: the sensation from inserting and removing each bead, creating rhythmic stimulation of the anus's sensitive nerves.
An anal hook is a metal object shaped like a J or U. It consists of: a curved stainless steel body, 20-35 cm long; a spherical end that enters the anus; and a ring at the other end for tying to rope. It's used in BDSM/Shibari for bondage positions: the ring connects to rope that tensions the submissive's body into a specific stance, usually with the head tilted back.
Differences. Shape: the plug is a single piece, beads are distinct shapes in a series. Movement: the plug goes in and stays put, beads are inserted and withdrawn for rhythmic stimulation. Stimulation: the plug gives a feeling of fullness, beads give rhythmic waves of sensitivity. Duration: the plug stays for a while, beads are used during activity. Training: increasing-size beads serve gradual training for larger sizes.
Steps. Preparation: cleaning. Plenty of lube on all the beads. Slow insertion one by one: each bead when you feel comfortable with the previous one. A pause to settle. During or at the peak: slow removal one by one, or removing all at once for more intense stimulation. Point: the pulling direction follows the natural curve of the anus. Use by a partner is recommended for better rhythm control.
Choose according to experience. Escalating size (graduated): the beads start small and grow toward the end. Suitable for beginners and for those wanting gradual training; it lets the user stop at whatever size feels comfortable. Uniform size: all beads are the same size. Suitable for the experienced who know what fits and want continuous rhythmic stimulation without variation. For beginners, always escalating.
It depends on the material. Silicone: easy to clean with warm water and a dedicated toy cleaner or mild soap; if it's one-piece (not articulated), it washes easily. Plastic: similar cleaning. With a cord between the beads (vintage design): thorough disinfection at the join points is hard and not recommended. Fully silicone, one-piece beads without an external cord are recommended. Cleaning after every use is mandatory, and recommended before each use too.
An anal pump is a toy that creates a vacuum at the anus via a manual or electric pump. It consists of: a cone-shaped cup applied to the anus; a pump (squeeze or electric); and a gauge in quality models for monitoring pressure. The purpose: it increases blood flow to the area, offers a feeling of fullness without inserting an object, and brings broader sensitivity to the anus's nerves. It's not for beginners.
A similar principle, a different area and precaution. Design: a penis pump has a cylindrical body for the whole penis, the anal one has a cup applied only to the outside of the anus. Pressure: the anal one needs lower pressure as the tissue is more sensitive. Time: penis 10-20 minutes, anal 5-10 minutes max. Risks: excessive pressure on the anus can cause bleeding from haemorrhoids or fissures. If haemorrhoids are present, it isn't recommended at all.
With strict adherence to the rules. Points of care: never use with existing haemorrhoids, fissures or irritation; a maximum time of 5-10 minutes continuously, and if reused, a 24-hour break; a gradual increase in pressure, never abrupt; monitor the gauge, and if you feel pain, depressurise immediately; avoid in people with blood-clotting problems or on anticoagulants. If there's bleeding after use, stop and see a doctor. Not recommended for chronic use: rare use only.
Selection criteria. Pump type: manual (cheaper, better control), electric (steadier pressure, pricier). A gauge: essential in quality ones; without it, pressure isn't monitored. Cup material: soft, body-safe silicone. Quick-release: a button that releases pressure instantly if uncomfortable. Cup size: matched to your build. The advice: avoid cheap models without a gauge. Price of quality ones: 50-150 euros.
It's for experienced users of anal stimulation who: are familiar with the area; don't have haemorrhoids or other problems; seek an alternative sensation without insertion; want sensitisation for later activities; and understand the safety rules. It's not for: beginners without experience; people with clotting problems; or those with skin conditions in the area. For beginners, plugs or beads are better.
An anal snake is a long, slim anal toy shaped like a snake. It has a silicone body, a length of 25-60 cm, a thin diameter (1-3 cm) and successively swollen segments or a smooth conical taper. It has a handle or emergency ring. The purpose: deep stimulation of the colon, gradual training for larger sizes and a feeling of prolonged fullness. It's not for beginners: it needs significant familiarity with anal penetration.
Differences. Structure: beads are distinct shapes on a cord, the snake is a continuous body. Stimulation: beads give rhythmic pulsing waves on removal, the snake gives a continuous feeling of distension. Depth: the snake enters deeper due to the conical taper. Cleaning: the snake (one-piece) cleans more easily. Experience: beads have a lower entry threshold, the snake needs advanced experience.
Steps. External cleaning and an anal douche if you wish. Plenty of lube along the whole length. Relax with breaths. Gradual insertion in stages: first the tip, a pause, then the next segments. Stop at any resistance and add more lube. Once at a comfortable depth, leave it steady for a few minutes. Remove in stages, slowly. Important: never let the body slip in without the handle.
The safe depth depends on anatomy and experience. A general rule. The first 10-15 cm: the straight section of the rectum, relatively easy insertion with proper preparation. 15-25 cm: here the first curve begins (the sigmoid colon), requiring care with the insertion angle. 25+ cm: it enters the sigmoid colon, for very experienced users only.
