A butt plug is a cone- or teardrop-shaped toy with a wide base that's inserted into the anus and stays in place without active holding. The base stops full insertion. It comes in different sizes, materials (silicone, stainless steel, glass) and designs. The purpose is the feeling of fullness, gradual preparation for anal sex and combined stimulation with other toys.

In choosing a size there are two dimensions. Diameter (the maximum width): the critical measurement. Beginners: 2-3 cm. Intermediate: 3-4 cm. Experienced: 4+ cm. Insertion length: usually 7-12 cm for comfortable use. Point of care: the passage narrows just before the base (the neck), which must be thin enough so it doesn't press constantly. A gradual path is recommended: start with a small plug and go up gradually. Never jump sizes.

Steps for safe insertion. Clean externally (and an anal douche if you wish). Plenty of water- or silicone-based lube on the plug and the anus. Relax: take slow deep breaths. The three main materials. Medical silicone: the most common, flexible, body-safe, easy to clean; downside, not compatible with silicone lubricants. Stainless steel: heavy, smooth, an excellent thermal conductor (can be warmed or chilled), more durable but pricier. Glass (borosilicate): smooth, hard, excellent aesthetics, easy to clean; risk, breaking if dropped. For beginners: silicone. For the experienced: steel or glass for a different sensation.

Tail plugs add a decorative, playful element. Design-wise: a silicone or steel base, functionally the same as a classic plug; a tail of synthetic fur (fox, rabbit, pony) or silicone (snake); a tail length of 30-80 cm. Use: petplay, an animal identity (kitten, fox, pony); aesthetics, where some enjoy the visual image; and parallel movement, the tail moving with you. Functionally the same as classics, with care in cleaning the fur.
