Proper cleaning of a dildo is essential for maintaining hygiene, preventing bacteria buildup, and ensuring safe use over time: After each use, wash the toy thoroughly with warm water and a mild, unscented soap or a dedicated sex toy cleaner. This helps remove residue while protecting the material’s surface. If the dildo is made from non-porous materials such as silicone or glass, it can also be sterilized by placing it in boiling water for a few minutes for deeper sanitation. Always make sure the toy is completely dry before storage, and keep it in a clean, dust-free environment away from other objects to maintain its condition and hygiene.

A dildo is a phallic toy without a vibration mechanism. It works through manual movement or mounted on a surface with a suction cup. A vibrator has an internal motor and produces vibrations, usually with adjustable speeds and patterns. Dildos are chosen mainly for penetration that mimics natural contact, while vibrators are used more to stimulate external spots such as the clitoris.

The safest dildo materials are non-porous: medical grade silicone, borosilicate glass, stainless steel and hard ABS plastic. They clean easily, do not harbor bacteria and do not react with body tissue. For soft materials such as TPE and TPR, choose versions clearly labeled phthalate-free from reputable manufacturers. In every case, a quality product states its material clearly on the packaging.

For a first purchase a moderate size is recommended: 12-15 cm in length and 3-4 cm in diameter. Medium-flex medical silicone is one of the most user-friendly options, as it adapts to different angles. Models with a suction-cup base allow more ways to use it. A simple shape without heavy textures is usually easier for beginners. Larger dimensions and more complex models are best after some experience.

A dildo can be used solo or with a partner. For two people there are several options: one partner guiding it for the other, combining it with other forms of stimulation, or fitting it into a strap-on harness when the model has a stable base. Talking beforehand about what each person wants makes the experience more comfortable for both. Some models are designed specifically for couples.

Clean it with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap before and after every use. Dedicated sex-toy cleaners designed for this purpose are also available. Drying it completely before storage extends the product's life. Store it in a fabric pouch or bag, separate from other toys. Dildos made of pure silicone with no electronic parts can also be sterilized by boiling.

A dildo is considered realistic when it faithfully reproduces the anatomical features of a penis: an anatomical head with a defined ridge, visible veins, a slight curve and often testicles at the base. Quality models are made of dual-density silicone, with a firmer inner core and a softer outer surface. This brings the feel to the touch close to that of natural skin.

These are two different approaches to a realistic feel. Materials like CyberSkin (a patented TPE blend) offer a soft, lifelike touch, but need more care in cleaning and storage because they are porous. Dual-density medical silicone gives a slightly firmer feel, is non-porous, withstands years of use and can be sterilized. The choice depends on whether you prioritize feel or durability and hygiene.

Testicles add a more natural look and act as a natural insertion limit. A suction cup lets you fix the dildo to smooth surfaces, so it can be used hands-free. Models with a flat base are also compatible with a strap-on harness. The choice depends on how you use it: for partnered play and more flexible positions, both features are useful. For simple manual use they are not essential.

The safest way is to immerse it in lukewarm water at 38-42°C for 5-10 minutes. Alternatively, wrap it in a warm towel for a few minutes. A microwave or direct heat source is not recommended, as they can alter the silicone or damage electronic parts. On rechargeable models, apply heat only externally to keep water away from the electronics. A little lubricant after warming helps hold the temperature.

There are several signs of low quality you can spot before use. A strong chemical smell is linked to possible phthalates. A greasy or sticky surface indicates the material is leaching plasticizers over time. Visible seams, colors that run when wet, and the absence of any material listed on the packaging are also important signs. A quality product carries a clear material note such as "medical grade silicone" or "phthalate-free."

There is no official industry definition. Dildos are usually labeled XXL when they exceed 20 cm in length and 5.5 cm in diameter. On "monster" models, dimensions reach 25-30 cm in length and 7+ cm in diameter. Diameter affects fit more than length, so it is worth paying attention to both dimensions when buying.

Adapting to larger sizes happens gradually, over weeks or months. Increasing from one size to the next should not exceed 0.5-1 cm in diameter. Before changing size you need several comfortable sessions with the previous one. Training sets with 3-4 successive sizes of the same shape make this process easier. Plenty of lubricant and enough relaxation time are essential every time.

Proper preparation takes about 20-45 minutes. It includes gradual relaxation (a warm bath, slow breathing), 10-15 minutes of stimulation, and progressively inserting smaller toys or fingers before the XXL. Enough prep time significantly reduces the chance of discomfort. On a first use, fully inserting the size is not necessary. A sudden transition without preparation is the most common reason for a failed experience.

With large sizes, lubricant is a safety factor. Thick water-based lubricants are among the most compatible options: they don't drain quickly, rinse off easily and work with all materials. Hybrids (water with a little silicone) last longer. Pure silicone lubricants last the longest, but may damage the surface of silicone toys. Use a generous amount and reapply often; for anal use, double it.
